SHORELINE YACHT CLUB SAILING INSTRUCTIONS

SRC-07

  1. Rules
    1. The regatta will be governed by the current Racing Rules of Sailing, the USSA prescriptions, the rules of the classes racing, these Sailing instructions, the Notice of Regatta, and any Addendum which may be posted. The regatta is classified as a category A event as prescribed in Appendix I. In the event of conflict, the provisions of these Sailing Instructions, and any change thereto, will prevail.
    2. One design yachts shall sail in their established class unless otherwise approved by the Race Committee.
    3. Double headsails shall be allowed in non-spinnaker class yachts if so prescribed in the Notice of Regatta.
    4. Start Finish line. The area between the RC boat and the SF orange/white flags line shall be considered an extension of the SF line. After staring, a yacht shall not sail through the SF line except to finish or to start the second lap of a twice around course. The SF line and its extensions shall rank as an obstruction.
    5. RRS 64.1(a) is changed by adding: The penalty for breaking RRS 75.2 with respect to ISAF Regulation 21.2.1(h) shall be a warning.
  2. Entries
    1. Entries shall be submitted as prescribed in the Notice of Regatta.
  3. Notices to Competitors
    1. Notices to Competitors will be posted on the official regatta notice board at Shoreline Yacht Club.
  4. Changes in sailing instructions
    1. Any changes to these Sailing Instructions will be posted before 2000 hours (8:00 pm) on the day before the change(s) take effect.
  5. Visual signals
    1. Visual signals shall be as prescribed in RRS Part 3 and race signal definitions.
    2. The following International Code Flags are added and may be displayed under the course signal: "T" Twice around signal. "R" Reverse course signal.
  6. Schedule of races
    1. The schedule of races shall be as prescribed in the Notice of Regatta or an addendum thereto.
  7. Class flags
    1. For class identification each yacht shall display an International Code Flag pennant from her permanent backstay as follows: PHRF A, "Two"; PHRF B, "Five"; PHRF C, "Seven"; PHRF N/S A, "Four"; PHRF N/S B, "Eight"; PHRF N/S C, "Nine". No identification pennants are required for one-design classes.
  8. Racing area
    1. The racing area will be as shown on the current Shoreline Yacht Club course chart prescribed in the Notice of Regatta
  9. The course
    1. Courses will be selected from those shown on the Shoreline Yacht Club course chart prescribed in the notice of Regatta.
  10. Marks
    1. Each mark of the course shall be rounded or passed to port unless the mark designated is followed by a small "s", which mark shall be rounded or passed to starboard.
    2. Race signals are modified to read, "No sound signal will be used when code flag "M" is displayed at a mark.
  11. The start
    1. Races will be started in accordance with RRS 26. In multiple class starts the warning for the next class will occur with or soon after the start for the previous class.
    2. The starting line will be between two marks, each with an orange/white flag, located approximately 200 yards South of Mark 39 (One mark may be aboard the committee boat.)
    3. Yachts must check in with the Race Committee prior to the warning signal for the first class.
    4. The course to be sailed for the starting class will be displayed with or soon after the class warning signal."
    5. Yachts whose preparatory signal has not been made shall keep well clear of the starting area. Any violation shall subject a yacht to protest.
  12. Recalls
    1. Individual recalls will be signaled in accordance with RRS 29.2. Sail numbers will not be hailed.

  13. Shortening course
    1. A course may be shortened at any rounding mark or at the start-finish line at the end of the first lap of a twice around course. The Race Committee shall make two sound signals and display code flag "S" at the mark where the course is shortened.
  14. Abandonment and Cancellation
    1. The Race Committee may abandon or cancel a race in progress when a change in the weather conditions has, in its judgement, made the race an unsatisfactory test of skill.
  15. Retirement
    1. A yacht, which checks in and later retires, shall make every effort to notify the Race Committee before leaving the course area. If that is not possible then, at the first reasonable opportunity after retiring, notify Shoreline Yacht Club in person, or by telephone (562) 435-4093.
